Gierałtowice, Silesian Voivodeship

Gierałtowice [ giɛrawtɔ'v itsɛ ʲ ] ( German greed Alto joke ) is an Upper Silesian town in Silesia in Poland. Gierałtowice is the seat of Gmina Gierałtowice.

Geographical Location

Gierałtowice is located about 8 km south-east of Gliwice ( Gleiwitz ) and is adjacent to the western neighbor city Knurów. The community lies on the edge of the Upper Silesian industrial area Coseler boiler between the Klodnitz and Birawka.

History

The village greed Alto joke originated in the late 13th century in a far-reaching forest area. This greed Alto joke was probably founded by the colonization of the East, to which his initial documentary mention on June 22, 1290 or the place name indicates. Because the village originally took the name of a German colonists named Gerhard. At the same time informed of this and a later document of 1294 over a certain Vitoslaw, the former mayor. Towards the beginning of the 14th century was greed Alto joke manor and the small village changed hands several times. From it acquired Matthias von Dobschütz 1532 the estate and sold it on December 22, 1544 for 1600 guilders to Jan Przedbor. 1665 Johann Skal was purchaser of the goods from which it passed in 1679 to Georg Freiherr von Welcz. Soon after, greed Alto joke went over to Franz von Holy and Ponientschütz († 1709) and no later than 1697 Kaspar von Schick. In 1700 his wife, the Church transferred a piece of land on which the local Church was built. In 1977, the congregation was formed and incorporated Gierałtowice the nearby villages Bujaków, Chudów, Ornontowice, Paniówki and Przyszowice. Attractions

  • The greed Alto witzer parish church was built in its present form in 1928 on the foundations of an older previous building. It outweigh modern elements, while especially the onion dome and roof skylights are attributable to the Neo-Baroque.
