The Gies Candles GmbH is a manufacturer of candles.

The company was founded in 1899 by Adam Joseph Gies as Wachsindustrie Fulda Adam Gies. 1921, a subsidiary factory under the name Brothers Gies was built in Bergedorf, near Hamburg. In 1965 the relocation of the corporate headquarters to Glindemann.

Today Gies part of the Swedish ALG Holding AB and five production sites in Europe. With 500 employees, an annual turnover of 100 million euros is achieved ..

Company History

In 1899, Adam Joseph Gies, the " Fulda Adam Gies Wachsindustrie " in Fulda. 1921 followed in Bergedorf, near Hamburg, a subsidiary factory under the name of " Brothers Gies ," 1965, the headquarters was moved to Glindemann. The company was acquired in 1982 by the Flensburg Liquor Factory " Hermann G. Dethleffsen ". Moreover, these also acquired the Danish candle factory established in 1777, ASP Holmblad and integrated them as Scandinavian distribution company in the "Gebrüder Gies GmbH & Co. KG ". A year later, the company bought Dethleffsen the Fulda Adam Gies Wachsindustrie. The candles division changed its name now under the name " Gies candles Adam Gies GmbH & Co., Glindemann and Fulda ." From 1985 to 1989, the Swedish group " Skane Gripen " from Malmö showed interest in a composite candles. The Swiss company " Becker Candles" and Gies Candles were merged to form Gies group. The production was relocated to Glindemann. In 1995, the Swedish Oskarshamn -based and 156 -year-old " Liljeholmens Stearinfabriks AB " as another company to do so, that the Gies Group consists of five European production companies since 1997. Under the new parent company " Liljeholmens Stearinfabriks AB " the group went to the Swedish stock exchange. 1998 Gies group member of the " Blyth Group", a company listed on the American stock exchange. 2006, the Company purchased ALG Holding AB newly established The Gies group.

In Glindemann among other annual one billion tealights are produced.
