Gijsbrecht Leytens

Gijsbrecht Leytens (* 1586 in Antwerp, † 1643 or 1656 in Antwerp) is a Flemish painter, who painted almost exclusively winter landscapes. He was at the age of twelve years apprentice in the Antwerp workshop of Jacques Vrolyck, was then a member of the local Guild of Saint Luke in 1611 and 1617 probably had from his own workshop with its own wizard.

Leytens topics are small figures surrounded by large trees in the winter forest, a subject that in art sometimes with the Dutch word Winterken ( Small Winter ) is characterized.
