Gin and tonic

Gin and Tonic ( in engl. Original Gin and tonic ) is a classic long drink of gin and tonic water. The mixing ratio varies depending on taste from 1:1 to 1:3 or higher.

Like most highballs, so mixed drinks, which generally consist only of a base spirit and a carbonated Filler, gin and tonic is built (german build in glass ), so prepared directly in the guest glass, by adding the ingredients over ice cubes and stir gently. Is decorated with a wedge of lemon or lime or a thin, thumb-sized piece of shell ( zest ), which is added to the drink, rarely with lemon or cucumber slice.

The gin and tonic is probably originally from England. There was drunk during the colonial period in India to protect against malaria, the quinine tonic water. The then Indian Tonic Water was very bitter, so they mixed the drink gin in order to improve the taste.

In ultraviolet light ( "black light " ) fluoresces Gin Tonic slightly bluish because of its Chiningehalts.

Gin and tonic was considered the favorite drink of the late Queen Mum.
