Gingham

The term vichy pattern can be summarized various woven textile patterns. Typically, these are color stripes, alternating with equally wide spaces and can also be superimposed crossed. Typical colors are red, blue and their pastel shades on a white base fabric. Anders and multi-colored designs are now as common.

The fabric can be woven on a loom by exchange of equal width warp and weft strips. As a simple, minimalist and high-contrast design it was originally used for bedding, pajamas, etc. - among others in the military. In the fifties it was picked up by the fashion and is now considered a classic.

In the English language, this pattern is called Pattern gingham.

Vichy stripes

It alternating equal-width stripes in color and additive color. Vertical or horizontal arrangement are possible. Such materials are popular for example in men's shirts. With coarser strip this fabric pattern was also known by the prisoners' clothing of the inmates of concentration camps in the Third Reich.

Vichy check or Bauernkaro

This opaque strips are crossed. The result is a checkered pattern with white, half colored and dyed at the intersection squares.
