Gino Odjick

Gino Odjick ( born September 7, 1970 in Maniwaki, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who played during his active career, among other things for the Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League.

Career

NHL Entry Draft 1990 Odjick was selected in the fifth round as 86 players from the Vancouver Canucks. Previously, he had won with the Laval Titan 1989 and 1990 the Coupe du Président. For the Canucks, he was employed in his preferred role as enforcer. Over the next eight years he was set as a regular player and an indispensable part of the team system. In the 1996/97 season he sat with 371 penalty minutes in the regular season, his personal best. He had in 1993/94, as Odjick scored 29 points in 76 NHL games His best regular season point. Odjick holds the franchise record for the Vancouver Canucks for the most penalty minutes with 2204 penalty minutes.

In March 1998, Odjick was traded for Jason Strudwick of the New York Islanders. He was not nearly as many penalty minutes as before in Vancouver, but filled the role of the enforcer still missing. In February 2000 he moved to the Philadelphia Flyers. In the 2000 /01 season he was only 30 games for the Montreal Canadiens since a wrist injury forced him to a multi- month hiatus. In August 2002, he suffered a head injury in training camp and fell for the entire 2002/03 season from playing out.
