Gintaras Beresnevičius

Gintaras Beresnevičius (* July 7, 1961 in Kaunas, † August 5, 2006 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian religious scholar, writer and journalist.

Life

1984 closed Beresnevičius his studies at the history department of the University of Vilnius. After 1986, he worked at several universities and received his PhD in 1993 at Norbertas Velius.

He was the author and editor of numerous scientific books. He wrote more than 100 scientific articles. He was most recently as the most profound connoisseur of Baltic mythology and religious history. In 2003 he published a textbook for use in religious education in the 11th and 12th grade.

His essays and commentaries published primarily in the journal Naujasis Židinys and the weekly cultural newspaper Šiaurės Atenai ( North Athens), whose co-editor he was, just as in various Internet news portals. He also published several volumes of essays ( under pseudonyms such as Antanas Sereda ) and a novel. From the President of Lithuania, he was ašmenų for his collection of essays Ant laiko awarded on the history of Lithuania. In 2004, he supported Casimire PRUNSKIENE during their presidential nomination.

Last Beresnevičius worked at the Center for Religious Studies and the Institute of Culture, Art and Philosophy at the University of Vilnius. Despite his outstanding scientific achievements and although his lectures the most popular events at this university were at the University of Kaunas, he was not appointed professor.

His death on 5 August 2006 has not been clarified in detail. It is certain that he was expelled under the influence of alcohol from a bar, under summoning the police. First, against the policemen ran an investigation, which was however discontinued in October 2006. The official version, according to which Beresnevičius not died as a result of ill-treatment by police officers, but of heart failure is due to many contradictions hardly accepted.
