Giocattolo

The Giocattolo Motori Pty. Ltd.. was an Australian automotive manufacturer that was founded in 1986 by the sports car enthusiast Paul Halstead and Formula 1 designer Barry Lock. As a company name (company) was the Italian word for toys.

The Giocattolo was originally based on a heavily modified Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint with a V6 mid-mounted engine. After the 4th prototype it was found that the V6 engine was introduced and incorporated with difficulty and high cost to Australia. Therefore, the company used the sprint four-cylinder model. The V6 Alfa Romeo was replaced by a V8 engine of HSV, which was also built in the rear. In addition to the lower price of HSV- engine offered higher performance than the originally scheduled Alfa Romeo engine. Top speed of the V8 Giocattolo was determined with 257 km / h. It is not known what happened to the four-cylinder engines and transmissions that have been removed from the Sprint imported from Italy.

Including the third prototype, which was originally equipped with the Alfa Romeo V6 and after an accident involving a police car in which he was almost completely destroyed, was converted to the HSV V8, only 15 Giocattolo before the company were built, 1989 was forced to close its doors. 13 of these 15 cars will still exist, one is no longer known, and one - with the chassis no. 007 - was destroyed in a high speed accident on the Eastern Creek Raceway in February 2001, with the driver who was killed 29 -year-old Todd Wilkes.

The third prototype appeared on the TV show Beyond 2000.
