Giorgos Donis

Georgios Donis (Greek Γιώργος Δώνης, born October 29, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany ) is a former Greek football player and coach.

Georgios Donis began his football career at Pavlos Melas before he moved to the youth department of Panathinaikos Athens, Athinaikos Athens and FC Panargiakos. 1990 Donis wrote his first professional contract with PAS Ioannina and came there in the following two seasons on 52 missions and seven goals. In 1991, Donis again to Panathinaikos (106 inserts, 30 goals) when he should have his most successful period as a player. In the following four years, he won two championships (1995, 1996), three cup wins (1993, 1994, 1995 ) and managed with Panathinaikos 1996 to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. After these successes, and after foreign clubs were aware of Donis, he moved to Blackburn Rovers and was thus the first Greek player who played in the Premier League. In Blackburn Donis remained until January 1998, and arrived there on 22 missions. His next stops were AEK Athens, Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town before he ended his active career at AEK in summer 2001. Georgios Donis, who acted in the position of striker, played 24 times between 1993 and 1999 for the Greek national football team for which he was able to achieve five goals.

After his playing career Donis 2002 took over as coach of the then fourth division Ilisiakos. With Ilisiakos he succeeded in only two years to rise in the second division. In 2004 he moved to league rivals and Greek traditional club AE Larisa, and this resulted in the first year in the first Greek league. Donis thus achieved the feat in just three years to rise from the Fourth League to the top division and qualified there even right away for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. 2007 managed Donis with Larisa 'Cup victory.
