Giorgos Katidis (Greek Γιώργος Κατίδης, born February 12, 1993, Thessaloniki ) is a Greek football player who stands at Novara Calcio in Italy under contract.

Career

In his youth Katidis played for Aris Thessaloniki. 2010 moved the midfielder on the Erstligakader the club and announced on January 4, 2011 home game against AO Kavala his debut in the Greek Super League. In August 2012, Katidis moved to league rivals AEK Athens, where he received a four-year contract. Shortly before Katidis had become as captain of the Greek U-19 national team vice European champion.

On 1 July 2013 Katidis moved to Italian second division club Novara Calcio.

Scandal surrounding Hitler salute

On March 16, 2013 Katidis got international headlines after he celebrated a goal in the game against Veria FC with the Nazi salute. One day later, the Greek football federation closed (EPO) Katidis for life from all the Greek national teams. Katidis claimed to be a fascist and not to have known the meaning of the Hitler salute. With his gesture, he wanted to dedicate the goal to a player colleagues in the stands. Nevertheless, he still announced on the day of association decision of their own accord his contract with AEK Athens. The media covered partially parallels to the case of the former Lazio player Paolo Di Canio.
