Giovanni Battista Grillo

Giovanni Battista Grillo ( Grillo also Gianbattisto * around 1570 in Venice, † November 1622 in Venice ) was an Italian organist and composer.

Life

About Youth and Education Grillo's nothing certain is known, it is, however, detected as a student of Claudio Monteverdi in Venice. In 1615 he became organist at the church of Santa Madonna dell'Orto in Venice, in 1619 even the first organist at San Marco. That Grillo said to have been active around 1615 for a few years at the Bavarian court chapel, but is not conclusively proven. As a composer Grillo kept a strict polyphonic art of Giovanni Gabrieli, as the follower of Monteverdi had next to their master imitation thereof to the better chance of success sake fail.
