Giovanni Bianchini

Giovanni Bianchini (* 1410, † after 1469; scholars Name: John Blanchinus ) was an Italian astronomer who worked in Ferrara.

He became famous for the publication of a system based on the Alfonsine Tables Table astronomical work, by means of which the positions of the planets could be calculated. This work was first published in 1458 after his death, until the 16th century, yet several times reprinted ( 1495, 1526, 1553, 1575).

The lunar crater Blanchinus was named in 1935 by the IAU for him.
