Giovanni Gualberto Magli

Giovanni Gualberto Magli († 1625) was an Italian castrato, whose time is active as a singer in the first quarter of the 17th century. He was born in Florence and studied singing with Giulio Caccini, 1604 before he was a musician in the house of the Medici on August 23. He took part in 1607 along with Girolamo Bacchini at the premiere of the opera L' Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi in Mantua at the court of Francesco IV Gonzaga in the role of La Musica and Proserpina and possibly yet another role. The musicologist and historian Hans Redlich writes about the role of Orfeo in error Magli. In 1608 he sang at the wedding celebrations of Cosimo II de ' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany and Maria Magdalena of Austria. In October 1611 he was given two years paid leave of Antonio de ' Medici ( 1576-1621 ) to conduct research in Naples. He left the service of the Medici in 1615 for a musical engagement at the court of John Sigismund, Elector of Brandenburg. He remained there until September in 1622.
