Giovanni Lorenzo Lulier

Giovanni Lorenzo Lulier (* around 1662 in Rome, † March 29, 1700 ) was an Italian violinist, cellist, trombonist and composer.

Life and work

Lulier, to whom they gave the nickname Giovannino del Violone, probably originated in a family of Spanish origin, and was a pupil of Pietro Simone Agostini (1635-1680), a composer and Violonespieler, who was in the service of the Duke Ranuccio II Farnese of Parma.

Between 1676-1699 Lulier played regularly in the Church of St. Louis of the French. On October 13, 1679, he joined the Congregation of Santa Cecilia. As of March 1681, he was employed in the service of Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili as a composer, copyist and Violonespieler and from 1688 as a trombonist in the Musici del Campidoglio. When Cardinal Pamphili in 1690 left Rome, Lulier came into the service of Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, where he remained until his death. In the 1690s, he is occasionally documented as a cellist at concerts, which were under the direction of Arcangelo Corelli. For Luliers oratorio Beatrice d' Este (1689 ) Corelli composed the opening concerto grosso.

From Lulier almost exclusively vocal works are known, most of which are lost, including numerous oratorios, cantatas and stage works.

The music for the Christmas Oratorio Oratorio " by birth la del Redentore " a is voci, cori di angeli, pastori, demoni e orchestra from 1698 in 2013 for the first time performed and recorded.

The cellist Klaus -Dieter Brandt and the Early Music Ensemble Köln played 2009 a cello concerto Luliers, which is not mentioned in any encyclopedia and may have been discovered only recently.
