Giovanni Tuccari

Giovanni Tuccari (* 1667 in Messina, † 1743 ibid of the plague ) was an Italian painter of the Baroque in Sicily.

Life

Giovanni Tuccari was the son of Barbalonga pupil and fresco painter Antonio Tuccari who knew in Messina, together with Antonio Bova and Bartolomeo Tricomi the ceiling of the cathedral of Messina with frescoes. Probably Giovanni was trained in his father's workshop, as he stepped out in particular as a fresco painter and echoes the artistic influence of Barbalonga in his work. Most of his frescos he realized in Messina and the surrounding area that were destroyed in the earthquake of 1783 and especially by the great quake of 1908.

Cacopardi boasted Tuccari as a painter with considerable talent who would excel at ease of his creative self Luca Giordano.

Besides the frescoes he created images of battles, history paintings, landscapes and still lifes.
