Girard I of Roussillon

Girard I ( German Gerhard, † 1113 ) was a crusader and Count of Rosselló ( Roussillon ). He was a son of Count Giselbert II and his wife Estefanía.

Girard took the cross in 1095 for the first crusade, and is called at the siege of Nicaea in 1097, the conquest of Antioch 1098 and the conquest of Jerusalem in 1099. In 1102 he was back in the home where he and his father then made a donation to the church of Sant Juan in Perpignan on 15 September. The father died shortly afterwards and Girard could take over the succession as Earl. In 1109 he moved once more to the Holy Land, leaving his wife back as regent. Shortly after his return again in 1113 he was assassinated under unclear circumstances.

Girard was married to a woman named Agnes; their son was Gausfred III. († 1164 ).
