Ä¢irts Dzelde

Ģirts Dzelde (* July 16, 1963 in Riga ) is a former Latvian tennis player.

Life

Dzelde attended the University of Latvia and in 1980 and 1983 double European champion of the amateurs. In 1988 he was in Sofia for the first time in the semifinals of a Challenger tournament and the following year he stood at the side of Goran Prpić in the finals of the Challenger tournament in Vienna. In 1994 he won with Mathias Huning the Challenger tournament in Heilbronn. Although Dzelde could never win a tournament on the ATP World Tour, but stood with changing partners in three finals. Its highest listing in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1991 with position 273 in single and in 1993 with position 108 in doubles.

In the individual he was never able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament. In the doubles competition his best result was a third- round participation in Wimbledon.

Dzelde graduated between 1993 and 2000 27 single and 16 double batches of the Latvian Davis Cup team. During this time Latvia could never qualify for the World Group, one of the highlights included meetings with top players Younes El Aynaoui, Hicham Arazi and Goran Ivanisevic against which he, however, each subject.

After the end of his professional career, he became team manager of Latvian Davis Cup team.
