Gita Dey

Gita Dey ( Bengali: গীতা দে, De Gītā; * August 5, 1931 in Kolkata, † January 17, 2011 ibid ) was an Indian actress of Bengali theater and the Bengali film.

Life

As a child, she gained early 1940s, first experience in the theater and as a film actress in Dhirendranath Ahuti Ganguly (1941 ), Niren Lahiri Dampati (1943) and Sukumar Dasgupta Nandita (1945 ). At the age of 15 she was married and broke her acting work for several years.

In the 1950s, she met the director and actor Sisir Bhaduri know and played under his aegis five years in Group Theatre with actors Gyanesh Mukherjee, Tulsi Lahiri, Shombhu Mitra, Tulsi Chakraborty, Kanu Bannerjee and Dilip Roy, as well as the directors Naresh Mitra and Ahindra Choudhury. From 1956 she was engaged for 18 years at the Star Theatre. Your last theater role was in 1996. From 1954 she worked as a radio speaker at All India Radio.

Her film work began in 1956 with the film Shilpi Dey, followed by Lalu Bhulu (1959 ) of Agradoot to continue. Since they did not have the necessary look for romantic film roles, she took a turn to character roles. About the actor Kali Bannerjee she became known with the director Ritwik Ghatak and took leading roles in the films Meghe Dhaka Tara (1960), Komal Gandhar (1961) and Subarnarekha (1962). In Samapti, the last episode in Satyajit Ray's Teen Kanya, she played the mother of Aparna Sen.

Gita Dey took in more than 100 films in almost any well-known directors of the Bengali film, so in Tapan Sinha's Jotugriha (1964) and Hatey Bazarey (1967 ), in Dinen Gupta's directorial debut Natun Pata (1969 ), under Ajoy Kar, Tarun Majumdar, Arabinda Mukherjee and Raja Sen.

For the Hindi film she worked only occasionally and in small roles, most recently including in Parineeta ( 2005).
