Giuliana Minuzzo

Giuliana Chenal Minuzzo (* November 26, 1931 in Marostica, Province of Vicenza, Veneto) is an Italian former Alpine skier. Chenal Minuzzo was the first Italian who won (1952 ) a medal at the Winter Olympics. In 1956 she has ever spoken as a first wife the Olympic oath.

Biography

Giuliana Minuzzo celebrated as a 17 -year-old first success in skiing ( at the Italian Championship and in international races Coppa Femina in Abetone ). Further international successes followed, including three wins (2x 1x slalom and combined ) in the SDS- race in Grindelwald 1953-1961 or a giant slalom victory at the Silberkrug race in Bad Gastein in 1961.

At the Olympic Winter Games 1952 Minuzzo participated in all three alpine ski disciplines and achieved a bronze medal in the downhill. 1952 Minuzzo married and changed her name to Giuliana Chenal Minuzzo. Her daughter Silvana was born during this time. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1956 in their own country they reached in the downhill and slalom fourth place respectively. In the combination, which counted only as a World Championship, she won the bronze medal. Four years later, at the Olympic Winter Games in 1960, she won the bronze medal in the giant slalom. Chenal Minuzzo ended her career in 1963 with the ninth Italian championship title, this time in the slalom. During the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin she held the Olympic flag, as Giorgio Rocca and Fabio Bianchetti spoke the oath.
