Giuliano Carmignola

Giuliano Carmignola (* 1951 in Treviso ) is an Italian violinist who is active both as a classical violinist as well as in historical performance practice.

Life and work

Giuliano Carmignola began learning to play the violin with his father and his grandfather, then he entered the Conservatory of Venice. After completing these studies, he worked with Nathan Milstein and Franco Gulli at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and with Henryk Szeryng at the Geneva Conservatory.

In the 1970s he undertook international concert tours with the ensemble I Virtuosi di Roma and worked in a piano trio. In 1971 he won the Premio Città di Vittorio Veneto and 1973 the 5th prize at the Paganini Competition in Genoa.

In the following years he performed with the most prestigious European orchestras under conductors such as Claudio Abbado or Eliahu Inbal. For ten years he was professor of violin at the Conservatory of Venice, he also taught at the Academy of Music in Siena. In 1999 he received the appointment at the Musikhochschule Luzern. From 1978 to 1985 he was concertmaster of the opera orchestra at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.

Since his work with the ensemble " de la Gioiosa Marca Sonatori " and the Venice Baroque Orchestra under Andrea Marcon Carmignola is one of the well-known soloists on the baroque violin. Many Baroque festivals such as Bruges, Lucerne, Vienna, Brussels, Salzburg and Barcelona are among his regular field of activity. His musical focus is on the Italian music of the 18th century. He plays on a violin by Pietro Guarneri of 1733.
