Giulio Superti-Furga

Giulio Superti- Furga ( born May 17, 1962 in Milan ) is an Italian molecular and systems biologist, based in Vienna, Austria.

Giulio Superti- Furga is the scientific director of the Research Center for Molecular Medicine ( CeMM ) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Among his most important scientific achievements include the study of fundamental regulatory mechanisms of tyrosine kinases in human cancers of importance, and the discovery of critical organizational principles of the proteome of higher organisms. His work has directly contributed to a systematic understanding of infections caused by pathogens and the mechanisms of action of certain drugs. He is an advocate of systems biology approaches to medicine and pharmaceutical research and has set itself the aim of linking basic and clinical research.

Giulio Superti- Furga has published approximately 125 manuscripts that have been cited a total of over 11,000 times. His current research focuses on protein complexes, molecular networks and drug substances in relation to leukemia and on mechanisms of immune response to pathogens.

Life

Giulio Superti- Furga attended the German School of Milan ( DSM) in Italy. He studied Molecular Biology at the University of Zurich, at Genentech Inc. in San Francisco and at the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP ) in Vienna.
