The Manilaschläfergrundel ( Giuris margaritacea ( Syn: Ophieleotris aporos Bleeker, 1854) ) is a maximum of 23 inches long expectant fish from the Schläfergrundelunterfamilie Eleotrinae.

Dissemination

The fish live in the tropical Indo-Pacific area of, Madagascar, Southeast Asia, to New Guinea, north of Australia, Melanesia and Palau. Larvae live in the ocean, adult animals in freshwater. They prefer habitats with dense plant growth.

Features

The Manilaschläfergrundel is a relatively large, stocky acting goby with cylindrical fuselage and a dorsally flattened head. In general, it is colored green brown, eight to ten dark stripes on the sides and a dark spot at the pectoral fin base. The lower half of the head is brown or yellowish with three to four dark brown to reddish stripes radiating from the lower part of the eye.

Nutrition

The Schläfergrundeln live omnivorous worms, insect larvae, small crustaceans and algae and other aquatic plants.
