Sannino as coach of AS Varese 1910
Giuseppe Sannino ( born April 30, 1957 in Ottaviano, Italy ) is a retired Italian footballer and current coach. As a player did not get beyond the amateur level, Sannino was active as a coach for the first division club Chievo Verona, having previously been trained, among others, the AS Varese 1910, AC Siena and Palermo. Since December 2013 he coached the English second division side FC Watford.
Playing career
Giuseppe Sannino, born on 30 April 1957 in Ottaviano, a small Italian town in the province of Naples in the Campania region, began playing football in 1975 at the northern Italian professional club FC Varese, which was to be found at that time in the second-rate series B. However, Sannino could not prevail in the team of FC Varese, and came into the season 1975/76 to no use. He then left the club and played in the course of his footballing career for a variety of smaller clubs, all located of which Trento Calcio 1921, the AC Fanfulla, AC Pavia and Spezia Calcio in amateur, probably the best known.
1988 ended Giuseppe Sannino his active career as a football player wearing the jersey of the Provincial Association Virtus Entella at the age of 31 years. He was subsequently football coach.
Coaching career
First Giuseppe Sannino worked as an assistant coach at AC Monza Brianza, among other things, and at Como Calcio. In 1996 he took his first head coaching job when he long the unterklassigen club SBC Oltrepò coached for one year. From 1999 to 2001 Sannino was coach of FC Alto Adige and led the Northern Italian club for the first time in its history in the C2 series and succeeded in just that League relegation. Despite this success, Sannino had to wait until 2003 before a höherklassiger club wanted to sign him. Sanninos commitment at FC Varese, however, was not crowned with success, he finished with the traditional club only the sixteenth rank in Serie C1 2003/04. In the same year Varese went bankrupt and Giuseppe Sannino left the northern Italian city. Four years later, after he had in the meantime AS Cosenza Calcio trained, Calcio Lecco and the U.S. Pergocrema, Sannino returned to the now newly established AS Varese 1910.
With Giuseppe Sannino as a trainer began a success story for the AS Varese 1910. From the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione Sannino led the club within two years in Serie B, and failed just wide of the rise in the A series as table fourth in the Serie B 2010/11 failed the AS Varese 1910 until the rise playoffs later Serie A - promoted Novara Calcio. In addition, the team had the AS Varese 1910 in the second division 2010/11 season with only 34 goals against the best defense in the league, however it reach only 51 own goals in 42 league games. In the summer of 2011 was Giuseppe Sannino new in succession of its lost to Juventus Antonio Conte coach at Erstligaaufsteiger AC Siena. After the end of the season 2011/12 ended Giuseppe Sanninos time at AC Siena. He became the new coach of Palermo in Sicily, and signed a contract until 2014. Already on matchday third of the season 2012/13 Sannino was released after two defeats and one draw. On March 12, 2013, he returned as the successor of Gasperini on the bank of Palermo and Palermo to save them from relegation. After the descent, he stepped back and Gennaro Gattuso took over the job. A few weeks later Sannino was introduced as the successor of Eugenio Corini on the bench Chievo Verona.
