Giuseppe Saronni

Giuseppe Saronni ( born September 22, 1957 in Novara, Italy ) is an Italian former racing cyclist and current manager of a cycling team.

Career

Saronni 1977 pro. The all-rounder with Sprint qualities won between 1979 and 1983 almost all the important cycling race in Italy. He won twice in the Giro d' Italia (1979, 1983), in which he won four times the points classification ( 1979-1981, 1983) and a total of 25 stage wins fetched. 1982 Saronni won the Tour of Lombardy and 1983 Milan-San Remo. In 1982, he was the Road World Championships in England to decide for itself twice more he reached the podium. Although Saronni ended his career as a cyclist in 1990, the Lombard after 1983 his Palmares could not add another great victory.

Legendary is Saronnis rivalry with his compatriot Francesco Moser. The two world class riders split the Italian Tifosi into two competing groups of fans, comparable only with the competition between Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi than thirty years earlier.

After his career as a cyclist Saronni was sports director and team manager of cycling team. As General Manager of Lampre- ISD in 2011 he became the subject of criticism, because against a number of drivers and attendants of the team was determined in the course of an investigation of the prosecutor's office in Mantova doping offense.
