Giuseppe Serpotta

Giuseppe Serpotta (* 1653 in Palermo, † 1719 ) was an Italian sculptor and plasterer of the baroque in Sicily.

Life

Giuseppe was a member of the family of sculptors Serpotta. He was the son and pupil of Gaspare (d. 1669) and brother of Giacomo Serpotta, with whom he collaborated frequently. His works are represented exclusively in the religious buildings in Palermo.

  • Church of Carmine Maggiore: in the Chapel of the Crucifix decoration with sculptures and ornaments (1683 )
  • Chiesa del Gesù: decoration of the Cappella del Collegio di Congregation (1688 )
  • Santa Maria della Pietà. Ceiling decoration of the nave (1708, with his brother Giacomo )
  • Santa Teresa alla Kalsa with Procopio
  • San Giuseppe dei Teatini: Stucco decoration in the Cappella di San Gaetano ( 1708)
  • Oratorio del Carminello: decoration of the nave and the apse (1718 )
