Gloss on the wine route is a municipality with 1386 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the judicial district or the district of Leibnitz in the Austrian province of Styria. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the communities Eichberg- Trautenburg, Leutschach and Schlossberg, the new community will be called " Leutschach on the wine road ".

Geography

Gloss on the Wine Route is situated in the southern Styrian wine country.

The community luster, together with the communities Schlossberg, Eichberg- Traut Castle and the market town of Leutschach the micro-region " vine country ". From 1 January 2015, these communities close together for new large community Leutschach on the wine route.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Fötschach, gloss, Langegg and Pössnitz.

History

1123 gloss Leutschach was first mentioned. Since that time the place name comes in various documents time and again, as " Glanzberg to the Glancz ", " In the Hlancz ", " In Lancz whether Gambitz " and the names of the later Katastralgemeinden: " Peznitza ", " Pezzentz " " Veltschach ", " Vetschach " or " Langeckh ".

Today's local churches as autonomous bodies created in 1850. Until 1882 the cadastral Fötschach, shine and Pössnitz components of the market town of Leutschach were. 1883 gloss an independent municipality.

In both world wars was the municipality target of numerous guerrilla attacks. 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

The Municipal Office of gloss is outside the municipal area in the neighboring municipality Leutschach.

Twinning

Together with the vines rural communities Leutschach, Eichberg- Traut Castle and Castle Hill the community gloss has a partnership with the community wetland in Central Franconia (D).

Culture and sights

Largest wine grape in the world

A special attraction is the "largest representation of a bunch of grapes " in the world, a created by glass artist Wilhelm Trojan work of art that the Eorykogel ( 483 m) is to be admired. It consists of stainless steel and colored glass, representing the grape beads. It is five feet high, four feet wide and six feet deep. The work refers to the work year, the winemaker, it has 365 glass beads for the days in a year ( and one for leap year), 52 parts form the weeks (50 leaves, stem and grape). 31 leaves denote the days of the month, twelve months the larger leaves, large leaves seven days of the week.

Economy and infrastructure

Viniculture

Gloss is the second largest Styrian wine-growing town. Viticulture is in addition to tourism, the main source of income Glanzer population.

The quality of the Styrian wine has increased greatly in recent decades, and marketing of the wine was much improved and expanded. This was also found for this border region a tremendous economic boom, which is continued by the enlargement of the EU (Slovenia ) yet.

A major focus set the Glanzer winegrowers in the architectural development of their farms and wineries. On one hand, old structures are being renovated and preserved for posterity, on the other hand being the new architectural ideas to be disclosed, what you can see impressive in many new buildings.
