Features
Beetle
The beetles have a length from 2.5 to 6.0 millimeters and have a light to dark brown body. This is elongate - oval and convex. The back is sparse to moderately dense, short -haired. The head is strongly angled downwards. The ten-membered sensor wearing a tripartite lobe. The palps are four members. There are formed five visible Ventrite (visible ventral sclerites ) on the abdomen. All Tracheenöffnungen that are located in the membranes of the pleura on the abdomen are fully formed. The genitalia of the male consist of a simple, symmetric, triple lobe. The genital capsule is clearly visible. In females, four egg-tubes ( ovarioles ) are present per ovary.
The autapomorphies that are different from the other families of the Scarabaeoidea, the group formed the back wing veins RP1 and RP3 4.
Dissemination and lifestyle
The little family is distributed with the exception of Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Very little is known about their way of life. In sandy and semi-arid areas can be lure the Imagines by light sources. If you disturb the animals, they generate weak Stridulationslaute. The larvae are unknown.
Taxonomy and systematics
Until recently, the genus has been attributed to the Erdkäfern ( Trogidae ) from which it was spun off due to lack of autapomorphies. The genus is in a sister relation to the other families of the superfamily Scarabaeoidea. So far, about 50 species are described.
