The glass leaf 401 " Kestrel " is a glider which was developed in 1968 for the Open Class. The glider - index of the 17 - meter version is 110, the 19 - meter version 112

The Kestrel is the prototype of today's 18- meter class. She was ahead of its time and is still a popular aircraft with spacious cockpit and a successful consensus of decent performance and maneuverability.

In the years 1968 to 1975 129 units were built. The name Kestrel comes from English and means kestrel. Over the years many competitions and records were flown with the Kestrel. It was in non- aviation circles known in the 1970s through the Alps flyer Jochen von Kalckreuth. In May 2011, Gordon Boettger flew with a Kestrel over 2250 km in the wave winding of the Sierra Nevada in the United States.
