Glaskogen

Glaskogen is a nature reserve in the west of the Swedish province of Värmland. The area is about 28,000 hectares and is located on the border between the municipalities of Arvika, Eda, Saffle and Årjäng.

History

On October 28, 1970, the provincial government declared Glaskogen a nature reserve. The corresponding Foundation, which is responsible for the maintenance and development of the reserve was established in 1972 by the associated above-mentioned communities.

Animal and plant life

The reserve is predominantly forested with coniferous forest, but there are also nearly 80 larger and smaller lakes, the largest being the Stora Gla with an area of ​​about 32 square kilometers. In Glaskogen live next moose and badgers too numerous for Sweden rather rare species such as wolves and lynxes.

Activities

The well-developed tourist despite its naturalness area offers over 300 km of marked hiking trails and the opportunity for canoeing. There are both for hikers as well as for paddlers at various points in the forest primitive shelter with open wooden huts, fireplaces and pit toilets. The village Lenungshammar, located in a nature reserve in the middle, also offers a campsite, a supermarket and a canoe rental. For a stay in Glaskogen you must purchase a visitor card whose proceeds will be used for the care and maintenance of the reserve.
