The PH Glatfelter Company is an American wood-processing company based in York, Pennsylvania. The company produces specialty papers at several locations worldwide. The shares of Glatfelter is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
History
The company was founded in 1864 by Philip H. Glatfelter in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. He earned then a paper mill for around 14,000 U.S. dollars and began production in July 1864 under the name Spring Forge Mill In the following decades, the company, whose main product was newsprint grew continuously and so increased the daily paper production of 1500 pounds per day in 1864 to over 100,000 pounds of paper in 1895.
The company's official registration followed in 1906 as PH Glatfelter Company. The following year, the company founder Philip H. Glatfelter Glatfelter died and William became the new president of Glatfelter. He sat next to an expansion of the company and so in 1918 founded the Glatfelter Pulp Wood Company, in order to meet the increasing demand for wood.
In January 1998, Glatfelter acquired Schoeller & Hoesch Group in Gernsbach in Baden- Württemberg for approximately 160 million U.S. dollars from Deutsche Beteiligungs AG.
In April 2013 Glatfelter acquired the Dresden Papier GmbH for approximately 160 million € of Fortress Paper.
Products
The PH Glatfelter Company produces various paper products, such as carbonless paper or paper for sanitary products. Also, food packaging, tea bag paper on Abacabasis, filter paper for coffee or paper for the production of books belonging to the range.
