Glauchau–Gößnitz railway

The railway line Glauchau Schönbörnchen - Goessnitz is a single-track, electrified main line in Saxony and Thuringia, which was originally built and operated by the Western Saxon State Railways. The track is an important section of the supra-regional link between the West-Saxon industrial area and West Germany ( mid - Germany connection). It branches in Glauchau Schönbörnchen off from the railway line Dresden- Werdau and via Meerane after Goessnitz.

History

As a continuation of the Chemnitz- Riesa railway was planned to the west, several options for connection to the railway line Leipzig -Hof ( Saxon- Bavarian Railway ) were studied. They discussed the connection in Zwickau, Crimmitschau or Goessnitz. A compound according to Goessnitz or Crimmitschau would have shortened especially the way from Chemnitz to Leipzig, a route to Zwickau offered because of major coal transport advantages. Ultimately, the line was out in Zwickau. ( cf. Bahn Dresden- Werdau ) In addition, a short connecting track of Glauchau was configured by Goessnitz. Its construction began on 25 June 1855. It was opened on 15 November 1858.

Between 1908 and 1912 the line was expanded to double track.

After the Second World War, the second track in 1946 was dismantled as reparations to the Soviet Union.

The mid-1980s, the line was electrified. The electric train has been recorded on June 1, 1984.

The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan of reconstruction of the second track is listed as " other needs". However, the final demand plan review in November 2010 recommended the abandonment of the second track, as long-distance transport is not considered economically on this relation and as the second track would remain thus dispensable.

On 28 February 2011 the upgrading of the line for tilting trains and a line speed of 140 km / h by the track between Glauchau Schönbörnchen and Goessnitz was fully inhibited began. During construction, all train services in the rail replacement buses were settled. In addition to the renewal of superstructure and substructure, the contact line systems as well as the control and safety technology have been completely renewed. The Meerane station was fundamentally transformed. Overall, the German railway invested 20 million euros in the expansion of the 13 kilometer link. The train service was resumed on December 11, 2011.
