Glen Moray is a whiskey distillery in Elgin, Morayshire, Scotland, United Kingdom.

History

Glen Moray Glen Moray Glenlivet 1897 by Distillery Co. Ltd.. built. For this purpose, a going back to 1828 Brewery (West Brewery ) was rebuilt. In 1910 the distillery was closed. In 1912 she was re-opened but closed shortly afterwards. 1920 Glen Moray Macdonald & Muir Ltd.. over who had already bought Glenmorangie two years earlier. 1923 Glen Moray was reopened. In 1958, the distillery was renovated. The Floor Maltings were replaced with a Saladin box. In 1978, the own malting was abandoned. In 1979, the stills were increased from two to four, and in 1992 the two older stills replaced by new ones. In 1996, Macdonald & Muir called in Glenmorangie plc. to and taken up by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy in October 2004; Glen Moray was sold to La Martiniquaise in September 2008.

A new visitor center was officially opened on 6 July 2004.

Glen Moray has its place in the history of whiskey safe, because here began Macdonald & Muir with their experiments, the wood finishing, which should make their other distillery Glenmorangie later so famous.

Production

The water belonging to the Speyside distillery from the River Lossie. The malt comes from foreign maltings ( Pauls and Simplon 's). Glen Moray is in the United Kingdom, the number 5 under the single malts. As an original bottling, there are 8 - (so-called "Classic" ), 12 -, 16 - and 30 -year-old single malt. There are also 3 original bottlings with special wood finishings: a 12 -year-old and a 16 -year-old Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay no age given.
