Glenni William Scofield

Glenni William Scofield ( born March 11, 1817 in Dewittville, Chautauqua County, New York, † August 30 1891 in Warren, Pennsylvania) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1863 and 1875 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives; later he became a federal judge.

Career

Glenni Scofield attended the common schools and then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. He then continued his education until 1840 at Hamilton College in Clinton continued. Then he taught for some time as a teacher. After studying law and his 1842 was admitted to the bar he began in Warren (Pennsylvania) to work in this profession. Between 1846 and 1848 he was there also District Attorney. At the same time he embarked on a political career. From 1849 to 1851 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. In the congressional elections of 1862 Scofield was in the 19th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Covode on March 4, 1863. After five re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1875 six legislative periods. Since 1873, he represented the 26th district state wide elected. From 1865 to 1867 was Chairman of the Committee on Scofield Revisal and Unfinished Business; 1869-1875 he headed the Marine Committee. During his time in Congress, the 13th, the 14th and the 15th Amendment to the Constitution were ratified. By 1865 his term was marked by the events of the Civil War. In 1874, Scofield gave up another Congress candidate. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1878 and 1881 he worked as register of the Treasury for the federal government.
