Gliese 176

Gliese 176 (short: Gl 176 or GJ called 176), cataloged as HD 285968, is about 30 light -years from Earth distant red dwarf in the constellation Taurus. It is characterized by an apparent brightness of 9.95 may not be seen with the naked eye even under optimal viewing conditions. In 2007, Michael Endl discovered using the radial velocity method an exoplanet orbiting this star and is designated Gliese 176 b and HD 285968 b.

Gliese 176 b or HD 285968 b is an extrasolar planet orbiting the red dwarf star every 10.24 days at a distance of about 0,073 astronomical units at an eccentricity of 0.23. Its mass is estimated to be at least about 0.076 Jupiter masses ( about 24 Earth masses ).
