Gliese 436

Gliese 436 (also GJ 436 ) is a red dwarf at a distance of 10.2 parsecs ( about 33 light-years ) in the constellation Leo. The star is surrounded by an exoplanet Gliese 436 b with the name. In addition, in July 2012, the discovery of another exoplanet Gliese 436 c with the designation was announced.

Gliese 436 belongs to the spectral type M2.5 V. Despite its relative proximity to the sun Gliese 436 is, therefore, like with an apparent brightness of only 10,67 relatively faint and can not be seen with the naked eye. The star is much older than the Sun, its surface temperature is about 3350 K a lot less; also shows the star only a small magnetic activity in its chromosphere.
