Gliwice Castle

The so-called Castle in Gliwice ( Gleiwitz ) is located at the edge of the old town in the Pod Murami - road and is now part of the Museum in Gliwice.

Before 1945 it was known as floor house ( prison ). The day also called Piast Castle building is, however, actually been a castle and is probably not in the place of residence of the Dukes of Gleiwitz.

History

The origins of the building date back to the city wall, which was built in the 14th century. A portion of this wall (still visible today ) was included in the building, as these and a fortified tower to the residence of the lord of the city of Frederick Czettritz ( Zetritz ) were expanded. The Gothic building of stone and brick, was built in the 16th century. Later the castle served as the armory, prison and farm. In the late 1950s, the castle was renovated, rebuilt and got a tower and is since 1959 part of the Museum in Gliwice.
