Glomalin

Glomalin is a glycoprotein that is predominantly formed on hyphae and spores of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the soil and in roots.

As glycoprotein Glomalin stores carbon in the form of proteins and carbohydrates (in particular glucose). It penetrates organic substances, which are thereby bound to sand, silt and clay. Glomalin contains about 30 to 40 % carbon and forms small Erdklümpchen. These granules loosens the soil and sequesters carbon in the soil. It also increases the air permeability and water storage -drying of the soil.
