Gluconasturtiin is a mustard oil glycoside, inter alia, from the watercress (Nasturtium officinale, hence the name). Like the similar Sinigrin both call forth a sharp - pungent taste.

The chemically more correct version of Trivial Names gluconasturtiin is 2- Phenylethylglucosinolat. Recent studies have shown an influence of gluconasturtiin on the resistance of the plant Barbarea vulgaris against the larvae of harmful insects Pieris rapae (family Pieridae ) and Mamestra brassicae ( cabbage moth, both order of the butterflies ).
