Glutaric acid is a water soluble saturated dicarboxylic acid. The salts and esters of glutaric hot Glutarate.
Occurrence and synthesis
Glutaric acid can be found eg in the juice of unripe beet. The synthesis can be carried out, for example, by hydrolysis of glutaronitrile; cyclopentanone technically oxidizing with nitric acid and vanadium ( V) oxide.
Properties
Glutaric acid is a flammable, sensitive to light, colorless and almost odorless solid which is readily soluble in water. Its aqueous solution is acidic.
Use
Glutaric acid can be used for preparing 1,5 -pentanediol by hydrogenation.
Safety
Glutaric acid in the acute irritating to eyes and respiratory system.
