GM 4L60-E transmission
The 4 L60 -E ( and similar 4 L65 -E) is a set of 4- speed automatic transmissions of General Motors Corporation. Was designed for the transmission longitudinally mounted engines. It is a further development of the Turbo Hydra-Matic 700R4, originally produced in 1982.
The 4L60 -E and 4L65 - E have been built by Toledo Transmission in Toledo ( Ohio) and transmission of Romulus in Romulus (Michigan) and Ramos Arizpe ( Mexico).
The gear of the 4L60 - E family use 2 shift solenoids ( solenoid ), which were first referred to as solenoid A & B solenoid. This was later changed to solenoid 1-2 & 2-3 to the OBD II ( On Board Diagnostics revision 2 ) comply with regulations. By enabling or disabling the solenoids in a predetermined pattern by the PCM 4 different gear ratios can be selected. The solenoid pattern, which is sometimes referred to as solenoid valve firing sequence is as follows:

There are two transmission variants that are designed for different loads. The two transmission variants differ mainly by the number of pinion in their planetary gears. The 4L60 -E has four, while the 4L65 -E has five. Other components of the 4L60 - E were reinforced when the 4L65 -E has been introduced. These were taken in the 4L60 -E in 2002.

In 1996, the " bolt-on " was abolished gearbox bell for S-10 and S-10 Blazer Trucks and 1998 for all other applications.
From 1998, a new 300 mm torque converter was installed with a higher capacity. The 4L60 - e is adapted to a torque of 488 Nm.
