GM HydroGen3

The fuel cell vehicle Opel HydroGen3 is used worldwide in various demonstration projects and is based on an Opel Zafira A.

The vehicles have a fuel cell GM with 200 cells and a power of 94 kW. The three phase asynchronous motor has 60 kW continuous power.

There are two versions of HydroGen3, which differ in the hydrogen storage.

  • The first version has a 68 -liter tank for liquid hydrogen. This 4.8 kg hydrogen are sufficient for about 400 km.
  • The other version of hydrogen pressure tank has take the 700 bar pressure about 2.8 kg of hydrogen, which is enough for about 270 km driving distance.

The top speed is 160 km / h with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 16 seconds.

Both models of the HydroGen3 were tested in several copies worldwide.

  • Two specimens had covered 2004, a record journey of nearly 10,000 miles from Hammerfest to Lisbon across Europe.
  • A copy has won with Heinz -Harald Frentzen at the helm in 2005, the Monte Carlo Rally in 2005 for alternative fuel vehicles.
  • More vehicles were tested by FedEX in Tokyo and U.S. Postal Service in California.
  • Presentations and test drives were carried out with specific lacquered and branded vehicles in China and South Korea.

2006 General Motors presented with the HydroGen4 the successor.
