GNP Crescendo Record Co.

GNP Crescendo Records is a company founded by Gene Norman independent jazz and soundtrack label based in Hollywood. It is from the Gene Norman Presents label founded in 1954 ( then GNP ) emerged and continued by his son Neil Norman.

History

Normann initially wanted to publish recordings of concerts, which he produced, especially from his event series Just Jazz. The first ten releases were 25 -inch LPs, including the Clifford Brown - Max Roach album was In Concert. In the 30cm format ( 12-inch LP) followed then by 1963 around 90 albums. The first 12-inch album was a live recording of Charlie Ventura Orchestra with Jackie Cain & Roy Kral. Starting in 1963, the label GNP focused exclusively on pop music. In the later decades again Jazz was produced (eg, Gary Burton, Bill Watrous ).

On the label are recordings of jazz musicians such as Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton, Charlie Ventura, Max Roach, Clifford Brown, Gerry Mulligan, Teddy Buckner, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Spud Murphy, Frank Morgan, Louis Armstrong and Marty Paich / Jimmy Giuffre available. On the label next to Latin and Pop - recorded music of Machito, Jack Constanzo, Eddie Cano, Tito Puente, Walter Wanderley published; also the plates of the rock band The Seeds were released there since 1966. Part of the jazz albums of the label was first re-released as a compact disc on the label Fresh Sound Records.

Later, soundtracks, published about from the Star Trek series; Album On Tour by Queen Ida brought the label its first Grammy in 1983.
