Goatse.cx

Goatse is an image that was originally presented on a web page at the URL goatse.cx. Purpose of the page was unsuspecting Internet users to view and to entice them to shock the Goatse image. The picture won a certain popularity and has often been imitated or referenced.

In the Goatse image is a photo of a forward diffracted naked man who presented to the viewer his unusual spread anus. The Goatse.cx site was shut down in 2004 by the Internet administration of the Christmas Island after a complaint. This resulted in an online petition, which called for the restoration of the status quo and received over 12,000 signatures.

In July 2005, a man was on a photo to a New York Times article, a T- shirt with the word " goatse ". Chris Anderson, editor in chief of Wired magazine, who interpreted this as a prank in itself, found to his surprise that the Goatse phenomenon is relatively unknown within its editors. In June 2007, the website of BBC News showed a selection of proposals submitted by readers for an alternative logo for the 2012 Olympics, including a Goatse parody.
