Godfrey II, Duke of Lower Lorraine

Gottfried II of the Childless (* 965, † September 26, 1023 ) was the son of Count Gottfried the Prisoner of Verdun and Matilda of Saxony. In 1012 he was employed by the German king Henry II as duke of Lower Lorraine. This establishment was part of the policy of the Ottos to protect the west of their empire against France.

Because Gottfried not low, but came from from Upper Lorraine, he was not involved in the interests of the nobility and was therefore unable to niederlothringischen there devote himself entirely to the interests of his king. In this sense, he made ​​several campaigns against any enemies of the empire.
