Godtfred Holmvang

Godtfred Holmvang ( born October 7, 1917 in Stabekk; † 19 February 2006 in Vancouver ) was a Norwegian athlete who competed for the IL Tyrving.

The first European Championships after the Second World War took place from 22 to 25 August 1946 in Oslo instead. It dominated Sweden, which had been spared by the war. But the other Scandinavian countries each won at least one title. The only title for the host from Norway won Godtfred Holmvang the top honor, the decathlon. With 6987 points ( 6760 points, according to current rating ), he won against Sergei Kuznetsov of the Soviet Union with 6930 points, the Swede Göran Waxberg with 6661 points and the Swiss Armin Scheurer with 6655 points. Then he was honored with the Morgenbladet gold medal.

At the 1948 Olympic Games in London Holmvang finished with 6663 points ( 6324, according to current rating ) in tenth place.

Holmvang was Norwegian champion in the decathlon in 1939, 1946 and 1948. 1946 he also won the title in the 110- meter hurdles.

1946 Holmvang was awarded the Egebergs Ærespris.

1968 emigrated Holmvang to Canada and settled in Vancouver.
