Goethe Federation

The general German Goethe -Bund was founded in March 1900 against the censorship efforts of the Lex Heinze to combine all intellectual and artistic forces to protect the freedom of art and science all the time.

History

The first central meeting took place in Weimar in November 1900 under Carl Alexander (Sachsen -Weimar -Eisenach ) and wrote a petition to the Reichstag against theater censorship.

1902 founded the Berlin Goethe -Bund German Volks -Schiller price.

Bremen

Inspired by the Goethe -Bund in Berlin Goethe covenant Bremen eV was founded on 27 September 1900 were among the founders of the director of the Kunsthalle Bremen Gustav Pauli, the pastor of the Church of St. Martin Albert Kalthoff and the philologist Emil Brenning. 1903 belonged to the Goethe covenant Bremen 1427 members and 17 clubs and 1925 there were 6390 members and 15 clubs. From 1907 to 1944, the director of the Old Gymnasium Gerhard Hellmers was chairman of the association, which still exists today.

The Giessen Goethe -Bund existed from 1914 to 1944. Was Chairman from 1924 to 1945 the jurist Otto Hermann Henning ( 1899-1970 ).

Königsberg in Prussia

The Konigsberg Goethe -Bund was founded in 1901. In 1909, the federal government 1,200, and later 3,500 members. Among them was Rolf Grabow. Chairman were Ludwig Dettmann (Director of the Academy of Art Königsberg ), from 1902 Mayor Paul Kunckle, Louis Goldstein ( 1910-1929 ) and Mrs. Schroeder to self-dissolution in 1933.

The Konigsberg Goethe- collar prompted many poetry readings, among others Borries von Munchausen, Hermann Sudermann, Frieda Young and Arno Holz. He promoted East Prussian poets such as Adda von Koenigsegg, Rolf Lauckner, Catherine Botsky, Kurt Mickoleit, Alfred chest, Walter Scheffler, Fritz Kudnig, Charlotte desert villages and August Martin Borrmann.

On Shrove Tuesday 1911, he honored E.T.A. Hoffmann with a dance ball in costumes of Hoffmann- time. With plaques poet he held in memory.
