Goldbach (Pegnitz)

Goldbach shortly before it flows into the River Pegnitz

The Goldbach is about 3.5 km long left tributary of the river Pegnitz. It is fed by the end of the Valznerweihers, east of Nuremberg in Zerzabelshofer forest. The Goldbach flows through two artificial pond ( pond Zeltner and Tullnauweiher ) and ends at the level of Woehrder Talübergangs in the southern arm of the river Pegnitz. Since the construction of Wöhrder the mouth area is piped from the Tullnauweiher and therefore no longer visible.

Water management

The Goldbach has a perennial drain, so all year leads water. At the time of snowmelt and after heavy rain, the water level swells rapidly to many times. The Goldbach has torrentiellste the water supply of the waters in the region. Because of the high risk of flooding and the already completed extensive channeling of urban stream run, it is a concern of the City of Nuremberg to preserve the remaining meandering streams.

History

Earlier, before the watercourse was channeled Goldbach delivered energy to power mills and hammer mills. During the "Third Reich" Goldbach Goldbach was on the lawn, a small park in the center of Zerzabelshof channeled. By the provisions of the Federal Nature Protection of the creek was renatured here. The meandering streams at the edge of the Lorenz Imperial Forest (upper Goldbach reason ) are administered by the federal government because of their great biodiversity conservation.

Frequent error

The Goldbach has no source in the realm forest, he obtained only through the end of the Valznerweihers which is artificially fed by the Hutgraben and Fischbach. The southern Pegnitz on the Woehrder meadow is often suspected as part of Goldbach's because of the non-visible stream confluence.

Recreation

The floodplain of the Goldbach's are after the Pegnitzauen the largest natural green area in Nuremberg. Especially the artificial ponds are a magnet for recreation. The Valznerweiher in Zerzabelshof is considered the most scenic pond and the region since the beginning of the 20th century one of the most important recreation areas in the city. The city of Nuremberg planned a better development of the Bach reason which is not publicly available over larger areas ( The creek runs partly through private land and allotment gardens ). Only between the Goldbachstraße and Gleißhammerstraße a bike and pedestrian path was built, which complements the existing road from the Metthingstraße. On Aussiger place of Bach was renatured. The measures were part of the project Grünzug Goldbach. The creek has a 5 m high artificial waterfall ( weir at the end of the Zeltner pond ).
