Golden Gate, Kiev

Golden Gate of Kiev (Ukrainian Золоті ворота / Soloti Worota ) is a historic fortified city gate in Kiev, capital of Ukraine.

The gate was built at the command of the Kiev Great Prince Yaroslav the Wise of 1017-1024. As a model served the Golden Gate of Constantinople Opel. In 1240 it was damaged by Mongolian troops of Batu Khan. The gate remained until the 18th century, the main entrance to the city and is often used for ceremonial purposes.

1832, the remnants of the gate were reconstructed. Further reconstruction work was carried out in the 1970s, it was on the remains of the gate, the new, reconstructed gate built. The new gate, which houses a museum, was opened in 1982 on the occasion of the 1500 anniversary of Kiev.
