Golden Heart (English for " Golden Heart " ) is the first studio album by the British musician Mark Knopfler without the band Dire Straits. It was released in 1996 and is Knopfler's third wife, actress Kitty Aldridge dedicated. As the pieces Singles Darling Pretty, Cannibals and Rüdiger were released.

Background

Following the release of the last studio album of Dire Straits, On Every Street and a grueling, five -month world tour through Europe, North America and Australia, with 7.1 million visitors, which ended in 1992, Knopfler broke the British rock group with little fanfare. The Dire Straits were one of the most commercially successful bands, sold over 120 million albums. He later recalled: "I have a line drawn, as I wanted to return to a kind of reality, it was self-defense, a matter of survival This degree is dehumanizing. .. " He spent two years trying to recover from this experience, which strained his creative and personal life. In 1994 he began work on his first solo album.

Tour

Knopfler supported the release of Golden Heart with the Golden Heart tour in Europe. This started on 24 April 1996 in Galway (Ireland ), followed by 84 concerts in 66 cities and ended on August 4, 1996 in Antibes ( France). The occupation of the tour consisted of Mark Knopfler (guitar, vocals ), Guy Fletcher (keyboards ), Richard Bennett ( guitar), Glenn Worf ( bass), Chad Cromwell (drums) and Jim Cox (keyboards). This original tour group was later called by the fans, the 96 -ers. A preview performance, with extended occupation, found on 15 April 1996 in the BBC building in London. This performance was recorded and later as a video entitled A Night in London ( German: One night in London) published.
