Golden Spike Ostrava

The Ostrava Golden Spike ( Czech Zlata tretra Ostrava ) is a held annually international athletics meeting in Ostrava (Czech Republic).

The sports festival has been held since 1961. Since 2003 it is part of the IAAF Super Grand Prix. The stadium, which takes place in the meeting, summarizes 22,000 spectators and is regularly sold out.

The meeting was known so far in particular by setting a new world record.

Czech Emil Zatopek made ​​it on 11 June 1949 to establish two world records in the 10,000 meters. He covered the distance in 29:28,2 min. As Viljo Heino then could undercut from Finland this time again by exactly one second, Zatopek once again came on 22 October in Ostrava and pushed the world record 29:21,2 min.

In 2004, the Ethiopian Kenenisa Bekele set a world record in the 10,000 -meter run. He needed it 26:20,31 min. On the same day Stacy Dragila (USA) jumped 4.83 meters in the pole vault women and divided so that the record with Yelena Isinbayeva (Russia), which was already just jumped in February 2004 high.

In 2007, the Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie set a world record in the hours of operation. With 21 285 m he surpassed the old mark by Arturo Barrios (Mexico) by 184 meters. His meantime after 20,000 m of 56:25,98 min was a world record.
